Brijuni

General information

Information regarding general data on the national park, geographical area, weather conditions on the islands and terminology pertaining to the islands. Brijuni island group is the most interesting, the largest and the most indented group of islands along the coast of western Istria. 

Natural heritage

The rich flora and fauna make it possible for visitors of the Brijuni National Park to return to nature and its principles. There are more than 400 species of plants growing on the islands, while numerous autochthonous and allochthonous species comprise the islands’ fauna. 

Geological and paleontological heritage

In the Mesozoic Era, the Earth, and Brijuni, were ruled by dinosaurs, magnificent and terrible reptiles. More than 200 dinosaur footprints have been discovered at four sites on Veliki Brijun.
