On the island of Veliki Brijun within Brijuni National Park, an official ceremony was held to mark the commencement of works on the reconstruction of the water supply network.
Pursuant to the provisions of the Water Act, Pula Water Supply Company (Vodovod d.o.o. Pula) assumed ownership of the public water infrastructure within Brijuni National Park in 2020. The project includes the reconstruction of the water supply network on the section stretching from the outlet of the submarine pipeline to Tegetthoff, the renewal of all service connections, and the reconstruction of the hydrant network, which is of exceptional importance for the fire protection of the archipelago.
Edo Krajcar, Director of Vodovod d.o.o. Pula, stated that the project envisages the installation of a total of 2,265 metres of water supply pipelines made of ductile iron, in DN 250, DN 200, DN 150 and DN 100 profiles. In addition to the pipelines, the project includes the construction of five underground water supply chambers for measurement and regulation equipment, as well as the development of a fire hydrant network.
Director of Brijuni National Park, Nataša Stojkovski, emphasized that this project represents much more than infrastructure for the National Park.
“This is an investment in the safety, reliability and long-term sustainability of the islands. By reconstructing the pipelines, service connections and hydrant network, we are enhancing the level of fire protection and ensuring a stable and high-quality water supply for visitors, employees and all facilities within the Park, while preserving the natural and cultural heritage for future generations,” said the Director.
Director Nataša Stojkovski and Director Edo Krajcar jointly expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, with special thanks to Minister Marija Vučković for her continuous support and commitment to the implementation of the project. They also thanked all those involved in the preparation and execution of this important undertaking and for their contribution to its successful realization.
